SHS basketball teams ready to open season

The Superior High School boys and girls basketball teams readied for the regular season with jamboree games at Southern High School in Wymore, Monday. The girls came away with a 45-28 win while the boys lost 64-24.

The girls open their 2022-2023 regular season with a game with Sutton at Superior. Both teams are on the court at republic County High School, Belleville, Saturday .The teams travel to Fairbury Tuesday for games with the Jeffs.

The boys varsity roster is comprised of senior class members Tanner Theis, Luke Jameson, Ashton Grassmann, Owen Perrie, Roscoe Baumbach, Jacob Meyer and Tate Streit. Junior class members are Theo Mathis and Carsyn Koeing. Freshman team members are Colten Butler, Mason Korb and Dayne Clark.

The junior varsity roster consists of seniors Chris Chavez and Elvind Uvslokk. Carson Smullins and Thomas Mathis are the sophomore class members. Freshman class players are Declan Miller, Kash Wenske, Ayron Grassmann, Bo Streit and Ryan Kramp.

The girls team is coached by Jake Nannen. Kirk Utecht serves as the assistant coach. The team compiled a 20-6 record last season, just missing a trip to the state tournament.

Senior team members are Laci Kirchhoff and Ella Gardner. Lily Edwards and Madison Heusinkvelt represent the junior class. Sophomore class members are Sadie Cornell, Halle Bargen, Rayne Biltoft and Faith Butler. Freshman team members are Ariana heusinkvelt and Ava Kirchhoff.
