The Jewell County Commissioners met Nov. 21, with Commissioners Steve Greene, Brent Beck, and Keith Roe present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, and Ed Duskie, commissioner elect joined the meeting.
Carla Waugh said Travis Garst, solid waste director, requested a revised solid waste resolution for determining when fees would be charged.
Jeff Cheek and Brett Williams discussed employee pay scales. Jeff said he was attending on behalf of every county employee requesting a pay raise. He said staffing is down which requires others to take on more duties. Within a few years several employees are ready for retirement which may cause more staff shortage. They discussed why some employees no longer work for Jewell County. Many employees work a second job to be able to make ends meet each month. A request was made for a $5 per hour raise. The commissioners said the health insurance cost went up 23 percent and the budget was set with a small pay increase earlier this year.
Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed changing from 12 motor grader operator zones to 10 operator zones. He had a map for the proposed 10 zones. The commissioners reviewed the map.
