Jeannette Powell

My sister died today, November 14, 2022. She was 71 years and 7 days old. Jeanne was a protective introvert who only allowed a small group of people into her inner circle. She loved staying home with a good book and having family dinners with her children and grandchildren. But mostly Jeanne loved her husband, Douglas Powell. He was her quiet hero who stood by her to the end.

She made me promise not to tell anyone she was fighting cancer for the past year. Jeanne was a lot stronger than I imagined. Jeanne fought valiantly until the end. She joined my mother and father (Skip and Donna Fullerton), my maternal grandparents (Jess and Bessie Dunn) and my paternal grandparents (John and Celinda Jeannette) in death. I can imagine them coming to escort her to Heaven. My dad reaching out "Come on Jeanne, time to go!"

Doug and Jeanne were married September 3, 1977. The minister was late to the wedding because he was watching the Huskers play. Together they created a strong family unit with their children: Jennifer Powell of Lincoln, Rhonda Powell Stacey, Bellevue, and Andy Powell (Kourtnie) of Lincoln. Grandchildren: Karissa, Bryce, Deklan and Trey. Siblings: Janice Fullerton, Superior, John Fullerton, Superior, and Jeffrey Fullerton, Monument, Colo.

We all grew up in the house where I currently live. Today it is haunted by memories: Thanksgiving, Christmas, laughter and tears. I will miss her stoic attitude, her crinkled nose when I swore and her smile when she talked about her family. Jeanne (Jeannette) was a 1970 graduate of Superior High School.

No funeral will be held per her request.
