LED signs being installed on school property
The regular meeting of the Mankato City Council was called to order by Mayor Justin Schoonover on Nov. 8. Councilmen present were: Sam Becker, Kevin Ost, Rodney Payne and Lyle Dauner. Councilman Hennion was absent. Also present were Darrell Miller, city attorney, and Sharon McCormick, interim city clerk.
Visitors present were: Rex Boley, USD 107 superintendent, and Amanda Horn, North Central Regional Planning Commission.
The mayor called the meeting to order and opened the public hearing relating to a proposed loan in an amount not to exceed $5,256,158.00 to be taken by the city from the Kansas Public Water Supply Loan Fund. Amanda Horn made a presentation as to the terms of the loan. The public was asked to make statements and ask questions of the governing body. The mayor then closed the public hearing.
Councilman Dauner moved the adoption ofresolution authorizing the completion of an application to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment regarding the loan. Councilman Ost seconded the motion. The resolution was read and the question was put to a roll call vote. The vote was 4-ayes and 0-nays, with one councilman absent. The mayor declared the resolution adopted.
Rex Boley, superintendent of USD 107, advised the council that USD 107 was considering the construction of a road leading from the parking lot behind the junior-senior high school building to N. East Street. Further discussion would be had as the project progresses. The council encouraged discussion with the city crew. Superintendent Boley also advised the council the new LED signs were being installed on the school property.
The council approved making the fourth payment to APAC on the city waterline project.
The council was presented a resoulution adopting the North Central Region F Multi-Hazard Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The council passed the resolution.
Payment of training from Jayhawk for the new assistant city clerk was approved.
The city’s pledge in the amount of $4,000 to Solomon Valley Transportation for the 2024 calendar year was approved unanimously.
Discussion was had concerning the proposed agreement with Miller & Associates, concerning the painting of the swimming pool. The matter was tabled.
Discussion was had concerning an amendment to City Ordinance No. 15-321 to recover unrecovered fuel cost. The city attorney was directed to prepare a proposed amendment for the council’s consideration at the next regular meeting.
