B-D-S volleyball in third place at state

The Bruning-Davenport -Shickley volleyball team came home with the third place trophy from the state championhip Class D1 tournament at Lincoln, Saturday.

The Eagles won their opening match, against Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, 25-27, 25-19, 25-22, 25-27 and 15-7, Thursday. B-D-S was the fourth seed while S-E-M was seeded fifth. The win sent the Eagles into the semi-final match against number one seed Norfolk Catholic Friday. B-D-S fell in four sets to the Knights, 25-20, 15-25, 20-25 and 22-25. They downed Maywood-Hayes Center, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25 and 15-11 to take third place honors Saturday at Lincoln North Star High Scool gymnasium. The number seven seed, Cedar Catholic, upset number one seed Norfolk Catholic, in five sets, for the championship title.

The Eagles football team was eliminated from state playoff contention with their 45-20 loss to Central Valley, at Wolbach, Friday.The Eagles were the number four seed but could not overcome the strengths of the number five seed Cougars. B-D-S ended the season with a 9-1 record.
