Dixie Lee McCollough went home to be with her Lord on October 24, 2022. She passed away peacefully at home after many years of valiantly battling colon cancer. She was 86 years old.
Dixie was born on August 18, 1936, to Lloyd and Ruby Hayes in Missoula, Montana, but the majority of her youth was spent in Formoso, Kansas. She graduated from Formoso High School and later moved to Deer Park, Washington, in 1955 where she married her husband George and raised five children (Roxie, Tony, Greg, Tim, Jeff). George passed away in 2004 and Dixie later married Robert Grimm in 2008.
Dixie worked in the bakery at Excel and waitressed at Jackie's Cafe for many years. She was a talented cake decorator and loved to make cakes for her children and grandchildren's birthdays. Her grandchildren remember her delicious baking especially her marshmallow brownies. There was a standing invitation for Thursday morning breakfast at Grandma's and she loved to have her family gathered around the table each week. She had an eclectic garden that was her pride and joy. Dixie was also a skilled seamstress and created many beautiful quilts. Dixie was an accomplished writer and award winning poet. She published a personal history book and also had several poems published in magazines. Dixie was an excellent memory keeper and always took pictures of her friends and family to capture as many "Kodak moments" as she could. Dixie was well loved by all those who knew her and will be missed greatly.
Dixie and her second husband, Robert Grimm split their time between Deer Park, Washington, and Jewell, Kansas, prior to his death in 2019.
Dixie is survived by her siblings Ervin (Joyce) Hayes, Virginia (John) Odynski, as well as her children Tony (Carla), Greg (Sheri), Tim (Shannen) and daughter in-law Trina, 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband George, her second husband Robert, her daughter Roxie and her son Jeff.
Dixie's Homecoming (memorial) Services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., at Deer Park United Methodist Church, 113 E 2nd Street, Deer Park, Washington. Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
