Mankato Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrates 150 years Sunday

The Mankato Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted a 150 years in Mission for Jesus the Christ with Pastor Dennis Beckmann on Sunday, Reformation Sunday. Norway, Kansas, church members were guests. History of the church was read by Mahlon McDill, Women by Nikki Vance and Youth Group by Daniel McDill, Prayer of the Day, Pastor Beckmann.

The Children's Sunday School Choir sang two powerful "moving" songs, the Reider Children, Richie, Oliver, Landon, Anna and Eva signed "Jesus Loves Me." Keegan Hollerick had a piano solo "The Church in the Wildwood." The Coil instrumental trio with Savannah, clarinet, Devin, baritone sax and Miles on the alto sax played "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past."

The first and second reading was done by Kathy Beckmann, and the gospel lesson by Pastor Beckmann.

The guest speaker was Mike Wind, director of Development of Missions, who gave a talk. Kristi Badger did offertory music with Tiffany Hollerich on her flute, playing "El-Shaddai." Communiton prayer, blessing, dismissal and potluck were by Kristi Badger.

More than 100 were in attendance. Everyone was asked to join for a potluck meal and fellowship time. The potluck dinner was fish, provided by Harold Lippold. Leroy Moser helped Harold fry the fish. Brandon Hollerich and Carl Jensen cooked hotdogs and hamburgers, donated by the Sunday School, together with the many salads, vegetables and desserts. Such great old fashioned cooking was delicious.

Speaker, Mike Wind, director of Spiritual Orphans Network (SON), gave a program at 2 p.m. at the Little Theater. Mike left his secular employment in 2006 to go to Estonia to lead a family Bible camp. Since that time, he has been involved in numerous teaching and instruction camps for Christian decipleship and spiritual growth in central and eastern Europe. He also travels to the USA to speak on work being done in Eastern Europe by SON. The latest updates from Ukraine and the nations borders were given.
