SHS volleyball ousted at sub-district

The Superior High School volleyball team split a pair of games at the Southern Nebrska Conference Tournamant at Milford. The team was eliminated in sub-district C2-7 play by Thayer Central Monday.

Superior downed Milford, 20-25, 25-19 and 25-18, at Milford last Tuesday in their opening round game. The Wildcats fell to David City, 25-23, 10-25 and 23-25, in three sets.

Thayer Central handed Superior a four set loss, 20-25, 25-13, 21-25 and 20-26.

Superior split the first two sets of the sub-district match. They held a 21-17 advantage in the third set and seemed to be on their way to a set win. Thayer Central denied the Wildcats the advantage to take the next two sets and the match. Superior was elminated. The Wildcats finished the season with a 15-13 record.

Madison Heusinvelt led the Wildcat killers against Milford with 17. Halle Bargen chimed in with 11 kills. Teegan Duncan and Ella Gardner posted six kills apiece. Brooklynn Grabast listed four kills. Atlee Kobza had a kill. Bargen, Heusinkvelt and Sadie Rempel slahed through two aces each. Kobza zipped through an ace.

Duncan jumped in for nine kills against David City. M. Heusinkvelt registered seven kills. Bargen added four kills. Gardner netted three kills. Ariana Heusinkvelt landed two kills. Lilly Edwards had a kill. M. Heusinkvelt lashed through three aces. Bargen, Gardner and Kobza sliced through two aces apiece. Rempel scored with an ace.

Bargen pounded down seven kills against Thayer Central. Duncan lined up for 13 kills. M. Heusinkvelt jammed down 12 kills. A. Heusinkvelt added a kill. Edwards contributed three kills. Grabast and Rempel were good for two kills apiece. Rempel ripped through four aces.Kobza lashed through two aces.

Bargen and M. Heusinkvelt scored am ace apiece.

The loss ended a five-year streak of appearances at the state tournament.

It was time for seniors Sadie Rempel, Atlee Kobza, Brooklynn Grabast, Ella Gardner, Kaylee Mohler and Tova Lestander to close out their Superior High School volleyball career. It wasn't the way they had hoped but they have a record to be proud of.
