RHHS volleyball heads to sub-state

The regular volleyball season concludes Tuesday for the Rock Hills High School team. They close out with a triangular match at Lincoln along with Wilson.

The team downed Chase in two sets, 25-18 and 25-23, for a win at the Osborne triangular match last Tuesday. Osborne swept the Grizzlies in two sets, 18-25 and 23-25.

The team faced a grueling day, Saturday, as they competed at the Northern Plains League Tournament at Beloit. Rock Hills won two matches and lost two. They downed Natoma in two sets, 25-16 and 25-23. They handed the Wilson team a two-set, 25-16, 25-23, loss. The Grizzlies fell to St. John’s-Tipton 17-25 and 20-25. Thunder Ridge swept the Grizzlies 17-25 and 15-25, in two sets.

Halle Mizner and Lauren Whelchel recorded five kills apiece against Natoma. Hannah Simmelink had two kills. Lauren Whelchel and Austyn Groote slipped through two aces each. Savannah Coil and Halle Mizner scored with an ace each.

Statistics were unavailable for the Wilson game.

Danica Frost lined up for five kills against Chase. Aubree Whelchel smashed down three kills. Lauren. Whelchel notched two kills. Mizner and Simmelink added a kill apiece. Groote and Mizner slashed through two aces each. Frost, Garst, Simmelink and Aubree Whelchel all scored with an ace.

Lauren Whelchel took care of two kills against Osborne. Mizner posted kill. Frost and Lauren Whelchel scored an ace apiece.

Frost put away five kills against Thunder Ridge. Lauren Whelchel put down four kills. Coil and Mizner added a kill apiece. Groote lined through two aces. Frost and Simmelink were good for an ace apiece.

Mizner and Lauren Whelchel locked up four kills apiece against St. John’s-Tipton. Simmelink made a kill three times. Lauren Whelchel pumped through three aces. Mizner and Simmelink clipped through two aces each.

The Grizzlies play for a chance to advance to the state tournament when they compete at Class 1A 1 sub-state event Saturday at Clifton-Clyde High School in Clyde. Other schools at the event are Blue Valley, Sylvan Lucas and Washington County. Should the Grizzlies win, they advance. If they lose, their season is over.
