L-N football reels off fifth straight win

The Lawrence-Nelson High School football team extend their consecutive game win streak to five games with their 50-0 demolition of the Silver Lake Mustangs at Bladen Friday.

The Raiders jumped out to a 20-0 first quarter lead and were never challenged by Silver Lake. Lawrence-Nelson added 14 points in the second frame to lead 34-0 at the half.

The Raiders defense was outstanding all game long. They held the Mustangs to a total of 55 yards on offense.

The Raiders followed a leisurely course in the second half, seemingly content with adding a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters to seal the 50-0 win and improve to 6-1 for the season. The lesser used players saw field time in the second half picking up essential experience for the playoff push and next season.

Krayton Kucera completed all seven of his passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Carter Griffis completed his one pass attempt for 22 yards and a touch down.

Nolan Ostdiek had one reception for 27 yards and a touchdown. Tyson Kotinek reeled in two passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. Bayln Bargen nabbed on pass for 16 yards. Erik Wheeland landed a pass for 12 yards. Toby Kotinek landed one pass for nine yards. Connor Janda pulled in one pass for three yards. Devyn Zikmund converted his one catch into a 33 yard touchdown romp.

Toby Kotinek led the ground pounders with 105 yards for six carries and two touchdowns. Janda covered 30 yards with his seven carries and scored a touchdown. Bargen picked up 21 yards with two hauls. Griffis was thrown for a negative 16 yards with his four carries. Zikmund picked up two yards on one carry. Cody Funk gained six yards with one carry.

Janda led the defense with seven solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Zikmund joined in with six solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Ostdiek nailed four solo tackles and two assisted tackles. Kucera landed three solo tackles ad assisted with four. Toby Kotinek closed out three solo tackles and two assists. Clay Williams picked up two solo tackles and two assisted tackles. Al Koehler totaled a solo tackle and two assisted tackles. Tyson Kotinek, Keaton Mazour and Trev Mueller accounted for a solo tackle and an assisted tackle apiece.

Bargen, Caden Culbertson, Funk and Griffis recorded a solo tackle each.

Wyatt Hajny listed an assisted tackle and a fumble recovery for the game. Sawyer Cox and Roy Davidson finished with an assisted tackle apiece.

The Raiders close out their regular season schedule Friday when they host the 1-6 Deshler Dragons at Lawrence. Playoff action begins Thursday, Oct. 20.
