Commissioners approve beverage licenses applications

The Jewell County Commissioners met Sept. 12.

Carla Waugh reviewed the KCAMP renewal schedules.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, reviewed the billing and activity reports for August.

Waugh reviewed the cereal malt beverage license applications of Billy R. Foster D.B.A. The Shed and B&G LLC’s that were sent to Ionia Township for approval. The commissioners approved the Billy R. Foster D.B.A. The Shed B&G LLC’s cereal malt beverage license applications, one for consumption on the premises and one for original and unopened containers and not for consumption on the premises.

Kyra Lampe, Jewell County Community Development coordinator, said the 2023 Big Kansas Road Trip will showcase Mankato, Belleville and Smith Center, May 4 through 7. She said Community Development updated their website. Community Development is working to implement items from the Strategic Doing Meeting findings. She encouraged everyone to take the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law survey.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, reported interviewing applicants for the motor grader operator position. He discussed the projects they are working on before harvest.

The commissioners approved Resolution 22-08 for Jewell County, Kansas to Levy a Property Tax Rate Exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate. They also approved the 2023 Budget as presented.

Cindy Becker, health administrator, reported a possible chicken pox case in Jewell County. She had the Mitchell County Contract for WIC services and the health officer’s agreement for the commissioners’ approval. She said a new home health service is available in Jewell County. Work began on the parking on the health clinic. She was getting quotes for a storage shed. Dakota Alvarez attended training and is now certified for car seat checks.

Commissioners approved the Mitchell County Health Department Contract for nutrition education for the WIC program for the period of October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023.

Commissioners signed the Jewell County Health Department County Health Officer Agreement with Andy Walker, MD.
