It appears more than likely the road to the state volleyball tournament will be rough one for Superior. They are far behind in the wildcard standings and will face having to win sub-district and district to earn a berth.

The Wildcats downed the Fairbury Jeffs at Fairbury in five sets, 24-25, 15-25, 27-25, 25-22 and 15-9 in an exciting come from behind win. Superior competed at the Adams Central Invitational at Hastings Saturday. Superior lost to Doniphan-Trumbull, 25-21, 16-25 and 23-25, in three sets. Broken Bow handed the Wildcats a three set, 25-22, 13-25 and 19-25 loss. Superior swept the Boone Central-Newman Grove Cardinals, 25-20 and 25-19, in two sets. The Wildcats played their opening round match at the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament Tuesday with match results unavailable at press time.

Teegan Duncan was the top killer against Fairbury with 18. Halle Bargen pounded down 15 kills. Madison Heusinkvelt posted 11 kills. Lilly Edwards added five kills. Brooklynn Grabast was good for three kills. Ella Gardner had one kill. Atlee Kobza and Sadie Rempel sliced through two aces apiece. E. Gardner scored with an ace. Kobza was credited with 34 digs. Rempel handled 22 digs. Bargen went in for 21 digs. E. Gardner grabbed 20 digs. Duncan accounted for 17 digs. Edwards and Heusinkvel added two digs each. Grabast nailed four digs.

Duncan and Heusinkvelt landed six kills each against Doniphan-Trumbull. Bargen had five kills. Grabast joined in with four kills. Rempel had a kill. Bargen scored with two aces. Heusinkvelt, Kobza and Rempel finessed through an ace each. Kobza topped the digs list with 19. Bargen posted 18 digs. Duncan added 12 digs. E. Gardner had five digs. Edwards and Heusinkvelt put up three digs each.

Grabast was the lead killer against Broken Bow with six. Bargen landed five kills. Heusinkvelt unloaded four kills. Edwards and Grabast took care of three kills each. Duncan zipped in two kills. Rempel had a kill. E. Kobza was the lead digger with 17. E. Gardner listed 14 digs. Bargen filed 10 digs. Rempel posted six digs. Duncan handed in five digs. Heusinkvelt added three digs. E. Gardner, Kobza and Rempel threaded through two aces each.

Duncan was the top killer with seven against Boone Central. Bargen chipped in five kills. Heusinkvelt placed three kills. E. Gardner had a kill. Duncan and Heusinkvelt each scored with an ace. Kobza cleared the deck with nine digs. Duncan contributed eight digs. Rempel clawed her way to five digs. E. Gardner left with four digs. Bargen posted three digs for the match. Edwards had a dig.

Superior plays the closing round matches at the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament today (Thursday). The Minden Whippet visit Superior for a match at the high school gymnasium Tuesday.
