SHS football drops Homecoming game

It was another rough outing for the Superior High School football team Friday at Brodstone Memorial Field when they fell to the Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles 50-21.

Superior stayed close for the first quarter as they went into the second quarter trailing 14-7.

The wheels came off the defensive side of the ball in the second quarter as the Eagles scored 20 unanswered points to take a 34-7 lead at the halfway mark

The Superior High School Drill team performed a flag routine at the half. They also provided cheer support throughout the game. The Superior High School Marching band entertained the crowd with the second song, “Learn to Fly,” of their ‘Hits of the 2000s” routine.

B-D-S added another touchdown the third quarter while they continued to stymie the Superior offense.

The Wildcats came alive with two fourth quarter touchdowns but they were way too late to close the gap. B-D-S left the field with a 50-21 win while the Wildcats remained winless in their three outings.

Aiden Humphries completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 47 yards. Jacob Meyer pulled in three passes for 24 yards. James Love took in two passes for five yards. Aaron Allgood strutted 18 yards with his one reception.

Humphries carried the ball 11 times to cover 54 yards and score on an 11-yard touchdown run. Kyler Boyles took the ball nine times for 60 yards and a 10-yard touchdown run. Love rushed for 11 yards with his eight carries. Meyer picked up six yards with four carries. Thomas Mathis sauntered 12 yards with his three carries. Cooper Sheely was held to a net no gain with two carries. Lincoln Sander picked up 12 yards on two carries including a seven-yard touchdown run. Cristian Avalos collected 13 yards with his two carries. He added three extra points with kicks.

Ella Gardner was crowned as homecoming queen in a ceremony following the game. There was a tie in the homecoming king contest. James Love and Tate Streit were crowned as co-kings. The homecoming royalty is selected by votes from the entire high school student body.

The Wildcats travel to Kenesaw Friday to face the unbeaten Blue devils. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
