Brad Shelton receives coaching honor

Brad Shelton of Tonganoxie, Kan., has been recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) as a National Assistant Coach of the Year. The ABCA has been recognizing the merits of assistant coaches since 1999.

The ABCA uses criteria such as coaching expertise, loyalty to the program and respect for players as it searches for candidates for its award program. Nominated candidates are reviewed by the ABCA All-American and Coach of the Year committees as well as the ABCA national office.

This process results in eight honorees at the collegiate level and three at the high school level. The 2022 high school honorees are: Dean Adams, Rock Canyon, Colo. (High School Division I); Chris Capano, Phillips Academy-Andover, Mass. (High School Division II); and Brad Shelton, Tonganoxie, Kan. (High School Division III).

The honored coaches will be recognized at the 79th annual ABCA Convention in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.

Shelton has 20 plus years of experience as a teacher, coach, mentor and leader in education. His professional passions are building relationships and motivating those with whom he is working. Shelton is a 1990 graduate of Jewell High School and the son of Frank and Thelma Shelton of Jewell.
