The Nebraska High School Rodeo schedule for 2022 in drawing to a close. After the events scheduled for the Nuckolls County Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, only the Broken Bow and North Platte rodeos will remain on the high school schedule. There is also a schedule for junior high age contestants.

The order of events at Nelson includes in the east arena goat tying, pole bending and barrel racing on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be a cutting contest there on Saturday.

Events planned for the west area include bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie down, saddle bronc riding, team roping and breakaway.

Admission is free and visitors are welcome to attend. The food stand will be open.

Contestants are expected to come from all over Nebraska and the fairgrounds will be covered with horse trailers, campers and other support equipment.

Unlike the professional rodeo which includes clowns and the announcer’s banter to entertain the crowd between rodeo action, in the high school rodeo the emphasis is on the young athletes and opportunities for them to polish their skills.
