Superior council approves change for sandblasting

The Superior City Council met briefly Monday evening and removed an obstacle that has been blocking a business expansion. The council passed on the third and final reading an ordinance change that will allow the operation of sandblasting businesses in areas of the community that are zoned for heavy industry. Previously sandblasting was not permitted within the confines of the city.

Since the City of Superior expanded the Kottmeyer Business Park with the acquisition of the former Champlin Petroleum Company tank farm on East Seventh Street, the development office has found a person interested in purchasing a portion of the site and locating a sandblasting business there.

Other ordinances approved Monday evening increased the maximum amount city employees may spend without first getting council approval.

The council, gave second reading approval to an ordinance reducing the days fireworks may sold and shot within the community. tt must be read and approved one more time before becoming law. Passage is expected as the proposed change has been approved without a dissenting vote on its first two readings.

The ordinance provides before engaging in the sale of fireworks a state license must be obtained. Only Nebraska approved fireworks may be sold. Fireworks may only be sold between the hours of 10 a.m.and 11 p.m. on June 30 through July 2 and from 10 a.m. to midnight on July 3 and 4. Fireworks may only be discharged between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on June 30 through July 2 and and from 10 a.,m. to midnight on July 3 and 4.
