One of the goals of the owners of this newspaper has long been to keep prices affordable but the day has come when prices must be adjusted. Prices of some supply items used in the production of the paper have nearly doubled since the pandemic arrived
Effective with the Sept. 1 issue, the single copy price will increase from 50 cents to 75 cents. Many weeklies in the two-state area are selling single copies for a $1 and a few for as much as $1.75.
Advertising rates are also going up on Sept. 1. The run-of-paper local advertising rate is being increased from $4 a column inch to $4.50. Some neighboring weeklies have rates approaching $10 a column inch.
Though postage rates have increased twice in 2022, the subscription rates are not changing at this time. Another postage increase in anticipated in early 2023 and the rates may change at that time.
