The regular meeting of the Mankato City Council was called to order by Mayor Justin Schoonover Aug. 2. Councilmen present were: Kevin Ost, George Hennion, Rodney Payne and Lyle Dauner. Councilman Becker was absent. Also present were Darrell Miller, city attorney, and Sharon McCormick, interim city clerk.
Visitors present were: Don Koester; Alex Beckman; Shelby Dennard; Todd Rogers; and city employee, Matt Badger.
Alex Beckman discussed with the council utility deposits required for businesses. The council considered Mr. Beckman’s concern and an agreement was reached concerning the required deposit at the CrestVue Motel.
Don Koester presented information regarding installation of a TV and supporting equipment for the Mankato Community Center. It was agreed the equipment was needed and the informal proposal prepared by Don as to cost, was reasonable. Sharon McCormick, interim city clerk, agreed to prepare a grant application for the equipment to be submitted to the Dane Hanson Foundation. Discussion was had concerning installation of an automatic door opener for the library.
Discussion was had concerning the employee handbook. Miller, city attorney, advised he would provide to the council a template of a new handbook.
The council approved payment for the statement from Mapes & Miller for the 2020 Audit.
Discussion was had concerning the need for information concerning the ARPA funds. No formal action was taken.
The council approved to reimburse the lifeguards $25 each for the swimming suits and $110 reimbursement for the certificate of training.
