New class options available for Rock Hills students as school takes up this fall

Additions and changes for are planned for some RHHS classes

The regular meeting for the Board of Education USD No. 107 was held June 13. Those present were Kenny Mizner, Marc Grout, Bobi Fogo, Wayne Frost, Rex Boley, Sam Meyers, Cassi Bozarth and Janet Higer. Guests were Libby Duffy and Kevin Peroutek.

The buildings report was given. Work is being done on the summer list. The ice machine at high school will be replaced. New convection ovens at both buildings will be installed.

The transportation report informed the board that Beloit SPED summer school started. They had a driver, paraprofessional, one student at the elementary school in Mankato and two students being transported.

The board clerk reported attending various end of the year trainings virtually. Research has been done and documentation provided for KPERS Audit for 2019, 2020 and 2021. The June regular payroll has been completed along with four summer payrolls.

Drivers education classes and driving are finished with 22 students successfully completing the course.

FBLA members attended the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Chicago from June 29 to July 2.

A new sensory room has been designed and built for the special education room. This will be utilized for any student who needs it throughout the year.

New for next year — high school students will be enrolled and taking classes during the school day on the campus of NCK. In addition, work is being done to have intergraded into junior-senior programs these NC3 Industry certifications:

• Data Analytics – Meter and Gateway from TRANE

• Precision Measurement – Snap-On

• Multimeter – Snap-On

• AC-DC Electricity Trainers – Festo

Welding opportunities are continuing for students. It is planned to have in place a pathway that gives students three options.

1). Welding skill level to enter the workforce after high school graduation with business in our region.

2). After graduation from Rock Hills enroll and transfer credits to a post-secondary welding program and gain American Welding Society (AWS) credentials- certifications

3). Concurrent transfer program so a student can take the credits earned as a Rock Hills student and complete their training and receive an associate degree from a community college or tech college.

Two bids have been received for an outdoor speaker system at the football field and track. A junior-senior high school gym lighting replacement bid has been received. This would more than double the current lumens in this space.

The junior-senior high school received a new pleasureless steamer. In June both buildings received their new convection ovens.

The district administration team met with the Jewell County Health Department during June and discussed student immunizations.

The administration continues to advertise for open positions. They are currently looking for a business teacher at the junior-senior high school, full-time and substitute bus drivers, substitute suburban drivers and MTSS para’s.

Mr. Boley talked about the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) 2022 Grant Application and Resolution that Kevin Peroutek is working on. Mr. Peroutek explained with this in place, FEMA would be able to provide quicker help in the event of a disaster. Mr. Peroutek also mentioned it would be a pre-requisite for other grants that are available for disaster mitigation. The resolution to be part of Region F and the mitigation plan presented by Mr. Peroutek was approved.

Mr. Boley discussed the NCKC4 Consortium and NC3. He reported they are in the process of closing out the budget and adopting a new budget for the next fiscal year. The NCKC4 Board will meet to discuss and vote on the budget.

The board agreed for Mr. Boley to purchase another laser and larger CNC router for the high school industrial arts program.

Mr. Meyers talked to the board about two grants the creative writing class, lead by Mrs. Walker, turned in and received monies for. Both were Dane Hanson grants. The first one is for a mural to be painted in the commons area at the junior-senior high school. The second grant is for a sound system at the Rock Hills junior-senior high football stadium. Both projects received $2,500. Mr. Meyers also reported that Mrs. Walker is working on writing another grant to help offset the cost of the sound system. The board accepted both grants.

The board discussed the library memorial practice that is currently in place and voted to discontinue the practice.

It was approved to accept the draft contract of Jewell County Health Department to provide services to USD 107 for the 22-23 school year. This contract is similar to previous contracts with some modifications.

Mr. Meyers discussed the use of football equipment for students at camp. The board approved to allow Rock Hill athletes to use school equipment.

The board accepted the Hiland Dairy bid.

The board accepted the workers compensation bid from First Dakota Indemnity.

The board approved hiring the following students to help with Jump Start at the rate of $10 per hour: Ethan Kenworthy, Bella Volker, Jaclyn Yelken and Austin Groote.

The board approved the request from Jaid Runft, high school secretary, to close the Class of 2022 account and open an account for the Class of 2029.

Resignations of the following were accepted: Tracy Anderes, high school volleyball, high school assistant girls basketball and high school assistant track coach; Wyatt Flinn, high school assistant track coach; Emily Harkness, elementary library para; and Jamie Harvey, junior and senior high school girls basketball coach.

The board approved offering contracts to the following: Jana Coil, head high school volleyball coach, and Ana Davis, elementary MTSS para.

It was approved to extend classified contracts to all current classified employees for the 22-23 school year.
