Jewell Community Center received local grant

The Jewell City Council met in regular session last Monday. Those in attendance were Darrell Bohnert, mayor; Josh Burks, Max Burks, Gaye Daniels, Bob Freeman, council members; and Kristie Anderson, city clerk .

Don Jacobs, sheriff, was present and talked about the town activities for the month of May.

Pat Zentz and Marsh Ericson, library board members and staff, discussed the library budget with the council.

James Reed, code enforcement officer, was absent but provided a written report for the month of May. He continues to work with property owners to abate nuisances.

Kristie Anderson presented the monthly clerk's report. Anderson gave an update on the community center and motel reservation for the month of June. Anderson discussed what she learned from her budget workshop class.

David Knappert presented the monthly maintenance report. Knappert reported on the projects he is currently working on and the streets that are going to be repaired this summer.

Bohnert mentioned for the budget input that the city should budget for upgrade in some equipment for the budget year 2023.

Anderson provided a 2023 budget preparation quote from Goheen and Slavik CPAS, LLC. The council approved hiring Goheen and Slavik to prepare the City of Jewell 2023 Budget. The building permit requested by R. Lyons was passed. Anderson presented a truck ordinance sample from Cawker City. The council approved to adopt Cawker City truck ordinance for the City of Jewell.

Daniels mentioned that Community Center Floor Project received $10,000 and $6,000 in local grants.
