Jewell County Community Development is again participating in the Dane G. Hansen Foundation Summer Internship Program. This year's intern is Reed Knitter, Fort Hays State student. Knitter is going into his senior year and is a marketing major with a minor in finance and a certificate in entrepreneurship. Reed is orginally from Morganville, Kan., and graduated high school in Clay Center, Kan. He said, "I am excited to get started in the organization, learn more about the community, and gain experience. It will be fun to be able to help market for businesses and events in a community that feels similar to where I grew up."
Kyra Lampe, JCCDA coordinator commented, "As a former Dane G. Hansen intern, I can't say how treasured this program is. It empowers rural communities to be proactive and reminds us that we can do big things in small towns. We are grateful to the Dane Hansen Foundation for again allowing us to participate in this program, and we're excited to have Reed on board."
This summer will be the fifth year JCCDA has hosted an intern through the Hansen program. Past interns were integral in developing downtown design concepts, establishing JCCDA as a 501(c)(3), and developing marketing materials for Jewell County. Knitter will build off this previous work and assist in marketing and economic development projects. Among the most prominent, he will help construct and market the new mammoth exhibit at the Jewell County Historical Museum.
