Commissioners host multi-county meeting in Mankato

The Jewell County Commissioners met, meet May 23. Commissioners Steve Greene, and Keith Roe were present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk was present for the meeting.

Sherry Koster, Jewell County Conservation District, presented the 2023 budget request.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, reported damage to a bridge in Jackson Township. He said the reclaimer is in need of repairs again. Curt Slate, road supervisor, discussed delays in rock projects because of the repairs needed on the reclaimer. He also discussed mowing and fuel costs and said they are building some rollers for the roads.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, discussed dispatch personnel.

Alex Carabajal, county attorney, discussed the by-laws of the juvenile detention center that she reviewed.

The Jewell County commissioners hosted the multi-county meeting at Bob’s of Mankato. Representatives from Mitchell, Osborne, and Smith counties attended. Phillip Murrow, sanitarian and Emily Benedick, Mitchell County Community Development director, joined the group. Chairman Greene opened the meeting with the group saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Murrow thanked Sherry Koster for the job she has done. He said he will be attending training. He discussed waste water permits. The commissioners discussed Theel Insurance a third party insurance provider. They also discussed retaining employees, and the need for child care in our communities. Emily Benedick discussed changes to the Community Block Grant Program.

The next multi-county meeting will be hosted by Mitchell County on Sept. 19.
