Park and Recreation Design Workshop Open House scheduled for June 1
Superior residents are invited to attend the Park and Recreation Design Open House from 4 to 6 p.m., on Wednesday, June 1.
Design professionals will be in action, creating concepts for the park and recreation facilities in Superior. Residents are invited to come work, ask questions, provide input and watch these concepts come to life.
On April 19, a total of 20 residents attended focus group conversations where potential park and recreation projects were identified and discussed. Those projects will now begin to take shape on June 1. Design professionals from Olsson Associates will spend the day in Superior, touring the local parks and developing project concepts based on what the community members believe will improve the city’s park and recreation facilities. Members of the Superior community are invited to come watch their ideas come to life during the open house from 4 to 6 p.m., that afternoon.
This Design Open House is the next step of the city’s process to create a ten-year Park and Recreation Master Plan (Plan) that will guide the decisions involving the purchase, construction and maintenance of park and recreation facilities. In addition to capital projects, the plan will also consider the community’s desire for recreational activities and other quality of life amenities.
On March 10, 2020, Superior’s registered voters approved a 1.5 percent sales tax with a portion of that sales tax going to fund community, recreational, and quality of life improvements. The purpose of the plan is to determine what those projects will be and how they will be funded over the next 10 years.
The Park and Recreation Master Plan is being created under the direction of Five Rule Rural Planning of Kearney working with civil and landscape designers from Olsson Associates of Grand Island and Lincoln. In the Fall of 2021, the city engaged Five Rule to complete the plan. This planning project was made possible by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded to the City of Superior by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development in the Fall of 2020.
