Moving Day for house in Lawrence

"Moving Day . . ." Most often a moving day involves taking household goods and furniture out of one house and into another.

Last week was a moving day for Pedro Conteras and family. Only this time the whole house was being moved.

Above the house is shown going down the highway in Lawrence to its new home two blocks west of Main Street in Lawrence. An abundance of spectators enjoyed watching the move.

Mr. Conteras purchased the house from Gerald Buschkoetter. It was built in the late 1940s and his parents, Leonard and Rosie Buschkoetter moved into the home when they were married in 1949. Six children were raised in the home which has stood empty since 2014 when Gerald moved into a new home on the farm.

Both Gerald and Mr. Conteras agreed a good deal of renovation would be needed before the house could be used.

The South Central Public Power District assisted in the move as they had to raise power lines over roads on the way to town.
