Puffs

OK folks, I know some of you getting closer to that retirement age of 62 or 67 or so, don’t like the jokes of joining AARP. Even some of you that have already reached that age, are not wild about AARP.

So, last week I learned something new. I have absolutely no information about it. I just find it interesting that some “bright” person, somewhere came up with a new name to the same group of people. This is the same thing our dear old government has been trying to do ever since they changed the “Food Stamp” Program to “SNAP,” “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.”

The new name I became acquainted with last week is: “AMAC,” Association of Mature American Citizens.

Keep your sense of humor folks.

The “End of the Beginning” or what.

The past few days have been full of “Commencement” programs. It seems many people view these programs as marking the end of a point in their lives.

However, somewhere in the distant past, I found out that the intent of the word “Commencement” was really to mean: “a new beginning.”

So, I’ve tried to remember that and realize that all of the youth, especially, are just starting out on a “new beginning.”

Nancy and I have had a number of people in our extended family and among our friends with graduates who had commencements this year. We congratulate them and all the graduates on their “New Beginnings,” rather than looking upon the occasions as the end of a period of their lives.

Jury Duty:

That responsibility that many of us have never fulfilled, but one that we seem to always dread would one day come.

Well, it seems that a few people in the Lincoln area decided to just ignore their summons to serve and just did not show up when called.

This spring, a judge in Lincoln had enough. She called in about a dozen of those such people and gave them a lesson in civic responsibility.

They were given a summons to appear in court. The judge explained the lesson they must have missed in “Civics” class in school. The judge then said they would be put back on the juror list and if they did not show up to serve, they would be given a summons to appear in court for violating a court order and could be fined.

Some folks just need to be hit up alongside the head to learn the basics. As I have noted before, living in a Democracy is not always an easy thing to do. We all have to do our part . . . whatever that is . . . and jury duty is a part we all have to fill at times.

Mass killings . . .

Over this weekend there was another “Mass Killing” in the state of New York. Seems like these events happen all too often and I’d like to make an observation about this event even though it was not different from all the others.

I have not heard the usual statements from the government, about how they intent to limit gun ownership, etc.

Maybe the government officials realize that there is something more complex going on here.

I understand that some of the readers get tired of me bringing up the subject of abortion, but I have always had the notion that “abortions” and these “Mass Killings” are directly related.

As a society, for nearly 50 years now, we’ve been told by a segment of society that killing babies in the womb is perfectly OK, in fact, it might even be good. (In fact, last week a government official told us that abortions are an economic incentive to the economy.) If this wasn’t so serious, it that would be funny.

Well folks, I’m convinced that some people don’t see a lot of difference between the killing of a person via abortions and the killing of people in a grocery store.

I have long advocated that those people who you vote for every two years should be opposed to abortions. The main reasoning being that if a person doesn’t feel strongly enough to protect a baby in the womb, how can they be trusted to protect anything else.

I know nothing about the mass killings in New York over last weekend, or about the person who did the shooting. However, if you condone abortions which is the killing of a human before birth, it is only a small step to condone the killing of any person regardless of age.

If you do a little research on Germany before WWII, you will find that is exactly how the state of Germany began its killing machine. They justified the killing of the unborn and moved on to the killing of the disabled, the handicapped (physically or mentally) and the elderly.

I find it interesting the Liberals and-or Democrats have found the Catholic Church as a target for some of their frustrations because of the prospect they may lose a Supreme Court decision on abortion. Catholic churches have already been the target for demonstrations and-or damage and I don’t know why.

Again I remind you to choose your election favorite carefully between now and November. I think there is a direct connection between someone who would do a mass shooting like did take place last weekend and people who support and promote the individual killings via abortions.
