Country Roads

It is beautiful, breathtaking and a sight to behold, all around these Country Roads. With the colder temperatures, high winds and dry weather behind us, spring finally takes the stage in all of its glory.

Maybe this sounds wordy but how else can it be described? Maybe it’s being over stated, but for this country woman, it is certainly breathtaking. What a difference a few inches of rain, added to the warming sunshine and God’s touch can make.

We went from a world that was sound asleep in the winter mode, coming out and rewarding us with spring. Spring has finally sprung. We better enjoy it!

The sights, sounds and smells of spring are all around us. Pasture grasses are greening and beginning to grow. The wheat, though a little short, is getting thicker; It’s a deep green, and heads are beginning to be revealed. Alfalfa fields are lush and green. Spring wildflowers can be seen here and there. Wild plum and chokecherry bushes are showing off with their pure white blooms giving promises to yield plums and berries later that will make tasty jellies. Daffodils, tulips, lilacs and iris are all colorfully blooming. Bees are busy buzzing from bloom to bloom. Song birds are singing at their best pitch and busy making their nests.

Trees have exploded with leaves and creeks are flowing after the recent rains. Some of the best spring rewards are seeing the baby calves bouncing and racing around the mama cows in the pastures. Farmers are busy again planting the fall crops as they feel better about planting the seeds into the soil that recently received moisture. Sounds of the busy tractors and the spray rigs stir the air as the farmers begin to put in the long days of labor.

Vegetable gardens are being planted and flower beds are receiving new additions. The peonies are budding and hopefully will be producing their beautiful flowers just in time for Memorial Day.

This spring we are not complaining about having to mow the yards, as we were wondering a month ago if there would even be any grass in the yards to mow.

It’s somewhat cool but yet the sun makes it feel just right while working in the yards, gardens and fields. The windows in the house are thrown open to let in the spring time air. We are thankful for these perfect spring days and hope they decide to stick around for a while.
