Wow . . .

What a change . . .

I remember many a morning in my past history waking up to rain hitting the window, and . . . not being too happy with that.

However, that happened this week, and . . . I was happy.

I not guessing the drought was broken, but gosh, it is nice to know that all those prayers for rain were answered.

Thank God . . .

I didn’t plan on starting with that little bit, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

What I was thinking about this week is the election that will be held next week. I learned many years ago not to “endorse” candidates, especially in primary election. More often than not, my choice did not win.

What I will endorse, however, is the idea that you actually get out to vote. Voting is so easy any more that I can’t find any excuse for not doing it.

Speaking of elections, our local elections here in Nebraska look a little different this year. For example . . . There are 11 people (14 if you count all the ballots) wanting to be your governor this spring, nine Republicans and two Democrats. I know who I’m voting for, but I admit I get confused by all the TV ads (positive or negative).

At the county level, most positions rarely get more than one person to file. However, this year, the Republicans get to decide between three candidates for the county treasurer position, the Democrats had no one file.

That is a rare occasion, folks. The last time there was a real race for any county position was maybe 12 years ago when I think five people filed for county clerk. (That was the year I changed my political registration from Democrat to Republican in the primary election, so I had the chance to vote for one of the five since there were no Democrats on the ballot.

It seems that, in general, Republicans get more choices than the Democrats as in many cases, Democrats do not have people filing for elected positions.

At the local level, the Lawrence- Nelson School Board has a lot of interest. Seven people are on the ballot to have three elected, and unless my memory fails me, these are all new people on the ballot.

Many local town and county positions will not be decided until the general election this fall.

‘O yes, one other interesting aspect of this election:

At one time, we could use the Democratic or the Republican ballots in the primary and that was about it. For the 2022 primary election in Nuckolls County, you could receive any one of six different ballots:

Republican Party

Democratic Party

Libertarian Party

Nonpartisan Democratic

Legal Marijuana NOW Party

Nonpartisan Party

Operating a Constitutional Republic is not an easy thing to do.

What I found interesting last week was the reaction to a person wanting to buy “Twitter.”

If you heard any ‘News’ in recent years you know a person by the name of Elon Musk is a very rich person and he’s been wanting to by a company known as ‘Twitter.’

That doesn’t surprise me as rich people are always trying to buy businesses to make themselves richer. What I was a little surprised about, however, was the reactions of a number of staunch Democrats.

In general, Democrats fretted: “there’s a lot of danger having so much power in the hands of any one entity. You could secretly ban one party’s candidate, or all of its candidates, etc., etc., etc.

The ‘American Action News’ replied: “Yes, we know. That was the concern for tens of millions of us when social media decided to silence the Hunter Biden story, lock accounts of prominent Trump-associated officials who shared the story, and then finally to throw former President Donald Trump off of all services simultaneously following January 6.”

Since we don’t even know what Mr. Musk’s intent is yet, I find it interesting the Democrats sure complain a lot when even the possibility of an action is taken that they think is negative to them and the very same thing actually did happen to the Republicans at an earlier time.

My final thoughts before this election concerns liberals (often confused with Democrats, which is understandable).

Liberals seem to always find something to be outraged about.

The latest example comes from Democrats (or liberals, who can tell the difference at times) in the state of Washington. Seems they are outraged over the use of the word “marijuana,” declaring it racist.

“The term ‘marijuana’ itself is pejorative and racist,” says Democratic State Rep. Melanie Morgan whose House Bill 1210, which goes into effect in June, replaces it with “cannabis” in state law.

The news release noted that Morgan is continuing a proud liberal tradition of claiming to have solved a problem by merely changing what it’s called. “It was used as a racist terminology to lock up Black and Brown people,” says Morgan, ignoring the fact her bill still allows officials to lock up black and brown people,” but now for possessing or selling “cannabis,”

Remember when lower income people received “Food Stamps?”

Today, nobody receives Food Stamps . . . Seems we don’t have any lower income (another word for ‘Poor’) people any more as ‘Food Stamps’ are no longer given to anyone.

Or . . . we just changed the program name to ‘SNAP’ (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Democrats thought that sounded so much better. . . but did not solve any problems.

Voting involves more than merely putting a check mark in a box. Do your part in helping the system work well.
