Andrew Babson, a senior at Rock Hills Jr. Sr. High School, son of Joshua and Burgundy Babson, has earned his Eagle Rank as a member of BSA Troop 46, Jewell County. For his Eagle Project, Andrew poured concrete and placed a hexagon outdoor tree bench on it. A Burr Oak tree has been planted in the center of the concrete. A total of 17 Scouts, leaders and community members came together and worked more than 160 hours to help him complete his project.
Andrew became a member of Troop 46 in 2015, when he and several others from Cub Scout Pack 46 chartered a Boy Scout Troop. This troop was the first to be established and maintained in Jewell County in over twenty years. Andrew has earned more than 50 merit badges and participated in more than 250 hours of community service in addition to his Eagle Project service hours. Some of the required merit badges he has completed include first aid, bicycling , citizenship, communication, cooking, personal fitness, personal management, environmental science, family life and camping.
A boy enters BSA (Boy Scouts of America) in sixth grade and earns the rank of Scout then continues up through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star Scout, Life Scout and the highest rank that can be achieved is Eagle Scout. At each level the Scout must learn new skills, earn merit badges and participate in a ScoutMaster Conference and a Board of Review.
Andrew has worked as a counselor at the Dane Hanson Boy Scout Reservation the past several summers teaching new Scouts the basic skills needed to advance through the ranks. After high school Andrew plans to finish his associates degree for sUAS (Drones) at Cloud County Community College through their wind energy program. During his senior year he worked on a dual high school - college credit program and is half-way towards finishing his degree at CCCC.
