Both the Hebron and Chester volunteer fire departments spent most of Friday night fighting a mail truck fire on U.S. 81 about 8 miles north of the Kansas-Nebraska state line.
A wrecker crew came from York to tear apart the semi-trailer loaded with bulk mail in an attempt to salvage as much of the mail as possible. The Hebron fire department reported using 45 gallons of foam and 7,000 gallons of water. The south bound truck hauling mail into Kansas was still smoldering six hours after the fire was discovered.
The firemen were called at 1:05 a.m. Saturday morning,
