USD 107 hires two teachers for 2022-23 school year

The Board of Education for USD 107 (Rock Hills) met March 21. Those present for the meeting were Kenny Mizner, Brenden Wirth, Marc Grout, Brandon Hollerich, Justin Angleton, Bobi Fogo, Wayne Frost, Rex Boley, Sam Meyers, Cassi Bozarth and Janet Higer.

The board was informed that Deanna Horse would be at the school from the Kansas Department of Education on Monday, April 4, to present students and staff the KSDE Challenge Award. This award is presented to a school district who outperforms the predicted state outcomes on the state assessment test in English language arts and mathematics. It is the third year in a row that Rock Hills has achieved this award.

The Rock Hills FBLA will be attending the first in-person state conference since 2019. It will be held in Topeka March 30 through April 1. All but two of the pre-judged events made it into finals which is an 85.7 percent success rate.

Pre-K through fifth grade conferences were well attended. The parent climate survey was filled out by 54 parents. The responses positive.

Marc Grout gave an informal report on an NCKC4 meeting he, Bobi Fogo and Mr. Boley attended in Cawker City. The discussion was a summary of what had taken place in the last year with the NCKC4 Consortium as well as about half time programs that will be offered for high school students at NCK Tech.

Mr. Boley discussed with the board the formation of a Community Facility Advisory Committee. He talked to the board about artificial surface for the elementary courtyard. The board gave him permission to seek funding through a Hanson grant.

Mr. Meyers presented the board with career and tech ed cooperative plans with NCK Tech for next year. Programs available for students will be: automotive technology, automotive collision technology, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning (PHAC), diesel technology and information technology.

Mr. Meyers reported on the driver’s ed program for the summer. The district will contract with Terri Engelbert.

Mrs. Bozarth reported 66 students have been invited to attend summer school.

The Jewell County Health Department will no longer be contracting for services with USD 107. The board will advertise for contracting services with an individual who has, at minimum, an LPN certification.

The Local Option Budget percentage was approved for a maximum of 31 percent.

The board approved offering Renee Ayer an elementary teaching contract and Otis Hendryx a junior-senior high school social studies contract for the 22-23 school year.

The board approved to advertise for an elementary librarian-MTSS professional and a junior-senior high school librarian-individual plans of service (IPS) position.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, May 11, in the board room of the district office.
