Love my crazy life

I’m having trouble getting my ducks in a row this week and keeping them there. Every time I have started a task, I have been re-tasked to something completely different. I feel like I’m running in circles.

After months of looking, debating, and scrutinizing, the hubby and I finally purchased a new bed and frame. Our budget was less than impressive, but we needed something. We knew we wanted a king-size bed because our queen was too small and hard as a rock, and the cat needed more room to sprawl out between the two of us! LOL! Then there was the problem with getting things up the stairs. There was no way we could get a king up the stairs. The queen barely fit, so we concluded the only possibility was a mattress that came in a box. There are so many different mattresses that come in a box, so this in itself was a daunting task!

The next issue was the bed frame. My bed sat on bricks right up until I found a standard frame at a thrift store a few years ago. I wanted a headboard because that seemed like the grown-up thing to have, and a footboard would have been nice and mature-looking as well. We both thought something with storage would be a plus and needed. So we looked at new and used and finally settled on an upholstered platform bed frame that was on sale. Score! No storage or footboard, but we have a headboard.

The next thing on the list was matching nightstands, getting grown up now! We wanted things that matched, trying to stay with that grown-up, mature theme. Years ago, I bought a French provincial dresser at an auction for like $20, and then someone gave me a smaller one when they moved because they no longer had use for it. These are antiques, and the bigger one is solid wood and heavy. I thought the boys were going to die bringing it in the house. They even had doubts they could get it into the bedroom, but somehow they managed, and it is never coming out!

Back to the point, this furniture style is a little on the pricy side. I thought George would have a myocardial infarction from sticker shock! One nightstand was going to cost more than the bed frame. So we were forced to do the thing he hates the most, Shop! We came across a couple of side tables with drawers at a craft store, and they make cute nightstands, and they even sort of match.

I plan to paint the bedroom furniture in a deep blue color that will compliment the headboard, which is a light grey. This seemed like an inexpensive solution to our problem, and soon we will have a grown-up, matching bedroom set. X’s & O’s.
