Theater to be open all day Saturday, May 28

The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) Board met Feb. 28. The meeting was held by ZOOM and in person and was called to order by Thadd Hinkle. Those present for the meeting were Thadd HInkle, Phyllis Christie, Kristin Underwood, Janis McDill, and Sarah Ortman. Lisa Goodheart and Linda and Virgil Jones joined the meeting on ZOOM.

The minutes of the January meeting were approved as corrected. Janis McDill presented the treasurer’s report, stating the theater lost $1,500 last month. She also said the theater has a $1,500 credit from Lionsgate.

Kristin Underwood asked that the January minutes be corrected to reflect the Mankato 150th Celebration committee does not have a film from the town’s 100th celebration. They are in the process of creating a slide presentation to be shown at the theater during the 150th celebration. She asked if the theater could be open all day that Saturday of Memorial weekend so a public restroom would be available. The board agreed to have it open, and popcorn could be offered if someone will volunteer to make it. Kristin also asked if the marquee lights could be on at the theater that Saturday night, even if it is decided to not show a movie. Hinkle said the estimate for Sonic to troubleshoot the hum in the sound system comes to $999.75, most of which is travel expense. It was decided to wait until they come for the bi-annual maintenance check.

Phyllis Christie said the popcorn popper kettle would not heat up last Saturday. Jessica Shulda went home and made popcorn for the movie that afternoon. They determined it was a wiring problem, and a “pigtail” has been ordered. Phyllis said it will cost $44 plus shipping. The movie “Sabina” will be shown at 7:30 p.m., on Sunday evening, March 27. This movie is free to the public. The movie normally scheduled for that weekend will be shown at 3 p.m., that day as usual. Contact Phyllis if you are interested in volunteering.

The next meeting will be March 28.
