OK folks, I know some of you are worrying that the world is going to hell in a handbasket . . .
With the war in the Ukraine, and generally how the U. S. is being governed, I can see how that feeling might arrive in your soul.
I've seen signs that might support your feelings. For example, the Russians seemed to be bombing the largest nuclear plant in Ukraine last week and if that really happened, or if they were better at their job, the disaster could have been bad. I've read the book on Chernobyl and we came so close to a worldwide disaster.
Going to a doctor's appointment last week in Hastings, I saw a robin "running" across the street in front of me. Now that worried me. Birds most often 'fly' away from approaching vehicles . . they don't run. Don't think I'll ever understand just why that robin was running.
This war in Ukraine, however, has made me think a lot about our dear, old world. Some things I've been thinking about.
• Some of the town names in Ukraine seem a little familiar to me and that had me baffled a little until I realized that I saw the names in books I've read about WWII.
• This war reminded me a little of the Civil War we had here when families were divided between the sides. This became evident upon reading of an older gentleman in Ukraine who fought for Russia in WWII and received quite a number of honors for his fighting. Now, if not for his age, he would be fighting against Russia.
• Do you remember back when the revolution in Iran overthrew their leader when Jimmy Carter was president? Quite a number of Americans were held hostage right up until Ronald Reagan was elected president and the new leaders in Iran thought that just maybe Reagan might be a stronger leader than Carter was. Do the Russians think so little of Mr. Biden they have no fear that he might make their incursion into Ukraine something they might later regret?
• Why did the Democrats and Liberals forced the U. S. to start importing oil again after we were energy independent and starting to export oil and gas?
• Why are the Liberals who support Socialism being so quiet? Is it because one of the largest socialistic economies in the world are the ones who started this war in Ukraine and they don't want Americans to connect the war with socialism?
• On TV they repeat the showing of a Russian parade of trucks they say is 40 miles long north of Kyiv and that it hasn't moved in over a week now. Nobody knows why.
• There are no Americans directly involved in this fighting in Ukraine, but I often considered the Americans fighting the wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Americans experienced wars in Europe and Asia and waited for word on the fate of their loved ones. I suspect it is no different today than it was in days gone by.

At times in the past, I offered the idea that the only reason Obama was elected president was to help us all forget just how bad Jimmy Carter was as president. Now, some people are suggesting Joe Biden was elected president just so we would forget just how bad Obama was as president.
The ideas were suggested in jest as a humorous comment on those presidents. However, the longer we have Joe Biden as president, the more I'm thinking those ideas are truthful. And what do those presidents all have in common. They are all Democrats and had some Liberal people in their administrations help lead America down a wrong path.

I suspect the whole "war" is beyond the comprehension of most everyone outside of the leaders of Russia. However, I see signs of hope: For a number of weeks now, I've seen robins back in our yard. This morning I saw the daffodils poking through the ground . . . even if half covered with snow.

There are many Nebraskans who support University of Nebraska Sports. Football, basketball, etc., even bowling.
Men's basketball fans were suffering through the current season as they had a 7-21 record just a few days ago. However, they now have a three game winning streak that included defeating two top teams, one with a No. 10 national rating and one with a No. 23 rating.
A comment from coach Hoiberg after Saturday's victory: "I look back at this, and it makes me a little bit sick," He was thinking of how well his team has played as of late and how the team played early in the season and lost so many games.
The University cut the coach's salary by millions of dollars just before this winning streak and look what good it did. (That's joke folks.)
