SHS wrestling

The Superior High School wrestling team has three members who will compete in the state tournament which begins today (Thursday) at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

The Wildcats competed at the District C-1 match held at Madison High School, Madison, Friday and Saturday. Superior finished in sixth place, with 76 points, in the 16 team field. Other teams with members vying for spots at the state match were Aquinas Catholic, Raymond Central, Fillmore Central, Syracuse, Bishop Neumann, Tri County, Elkhorn Valley, Twin River, Tekamah-Herman, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Bridgeport, Grand Island Central Catholic, South Central Unified District 5, Madison and Lutheran High Northeast. The first three finishers in each weight bracket qualified for the state meet.

Holden MacDonald ended his season in the 106 pound weight bracket with a 30-14 record. He earned four team points for Superior.

Brett Miller finished with a 24-21 record in the 113 pound weight bracket. He earned three team points.

Cole Rughe went 4-30 for the season at the 120 pound weight class.

Hayden Neeman earned 22 team points for the Wildcats and a trip to Omaha with his first place finish in the 126 pound weight bracket. He sported a 33-5 record.

Aaron Allgood put up a 34-13 record for the season in the 145 pound weight bracket. He earned four team points for Superior.

Tyler Everhart compiled a 22-8 season record at 152 pounds. He earned seven team points.

Angel Morgan was 2-13 for the season at the 182 pound mark.

Ty Woerner compiled a 21-14 season record at the 195 pound weight mark. He was awarded four team points.

Anders Webber was awarded a trip to the state match along with 18 team points for his second place finish in the 220 pound weight bracket. Webber dropped his first place match because of a medical forfeit. He finished with a 29-5 record.

Payton Christiancy finished in second place in the 285 pound weight bracket. He earned a trip to Omaha and 14 team points. He had a 44-6 season record.

The state tournament gets under way Thursday at Omaha's CHI Health Center. The outcome of each Superior wrestler's opening round match will determine his path through the tournament. The championship rounds are scheduled for Saturday. Check the NSAA web site for details.
