Red Neck Miniature Golf tourney supports great cause

Join the fun on Sunday for the annual Red Neck Miniature Golf Tournament in Deweese and support a great cause. Proceeds from the event will go to St. Jude Research Hospital and to area cancer center patients.

What is Red Neck Miniature Golf? Folks in Deweese have put a little twist on the favorite pastime by including dart throwing, ball tossing and more. Upon registration, participants will receive a map showing where each hole is located, all indoors, and two or three holes will be at each location in and around Deweese.

Registration begins at 11:45 a.m. at the community building or clubhouse, as some call it, just two blocks south of the elevator. The tournament beings at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start! This year, there will be 19 holes, with the final hole located at the clubhouse. There is no need to bring a club, as one will be provided, even for lefties! A potato bar will be served during the event, along with dessert. The flight winners will receive cash; and, flag prizes will be awarded.

A silent auction will be held. Some items available to bid on are gift certificates to area businesses; a battery operated grease gun; barbecue basket; and and a breast cancer awareness pink folding lawn chair. A live auction will be held at approximately 5:30 p.m. A handcrafted American wooden flag; portable air compressor; and, two tickets to George Strait's concert for April 23, at the Pinnacle in Lincoln are to be sold. Because of COVID, the event was not held in 2021.

In 2020 fifty teams registered for the event, and a little more than $6,200 was raised. Register early for the event by contacting Dee Kohmetscher at 402-469-2575; dkohmetscher1@gmail. com; or, on the day of the event at the Deweese Community Building.
