Red Raiders end regular season at conference tourney

A combined conference wrestling tournament was held last week for both the Fort Kearney Conference and the Twin Valley Conference to allow wrestlers more chances to compete. Among the 18 teams, Amherst won the event with 182.5 points; Red Cloud-Blue Hill was 2nd with 134.5 points. Pleasanton placed third with 124 points.

For the co-op team of Lawrence- Nelson and Sandy Creek, two wrestlers took part. Rowan Jarosik (31-11) placed 2nd in the 113 pound division and scored 17 team points. In the quarterfinal round Rowan defeated Austin Kennicutt of Overton with a Fall in 1:30. In the semifinal round he won by a major decision over Aiden Piel of Red Cloud-Blue Hill with a 16-7 point decision.

However, in the first place match, Rowan lost a 4-2 decision to Gatlin Krepeia of Pleasanton.

In the 220 pound division, Nathan Elledge (6-25) lost his first round and received a bye in the first 2nd consolation round. However, he lost in his consolation round which ended his competition for the day.

This week begins the route to the state wrestling meet. The Red Raiders will compete in the District C-1 Meet in Madison High School on Friday, Feb. 11. There are 16 teams in this district.
