It was close for two quarters but at the end of the game number one Class C-2 ranked Hastings St. Cecilia handed the Superior High School girls basketball team a 43-30 loss at Hastings last Tuesday. Superior hosted the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals, Friday, and picked up win number 13 with their 53-39 win. Superior hosted the Deshler Dragons Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time.
The Hawkettes remained undefeated and it was the third loss of the season for Superior.
Superior remained close making a run at the Hawkettes in the fourth quarter narrowing the gap to three points. Unfortunately, foul problems enabled Hastings St. Cecilia to pull ahead and seal the win.
Shayla Meyer led the Superior offense against the Hawkettes with 18 points. Sadie Cornell accounted for eight points. Ella Gardner dropped through four points. Meyer ripped away 13 rebounds. Gardner grabbed four rebounds. Teegan Duncan landed two rebounds. Halle Bargen, Cornell and Neah McMeen collected a rebound apiece.
Meyer produced 16 points to lead the Superior offense against Doniphan-Trumbull. Gardner provided 12 points. Laci Kirchhoff dumped through six points. Bargen and Duncan posted three points apiece. Faith Butler and McMeen scored one point each.
Superior takes a trip to Auburn Friday. They begin Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament play Monday.
