It was another rough outing for the Superior High School boys basketball team as they fell to the Hastings St. Cecilia Bluehawks at Hastings, 64-37, last Tuesday. Doniphan-Trumbull handled the Wildcats, 51-33, at Superior Friday. The Wildcats hosted the Deshler Dragons at Superior Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time.
Superior held a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. They trailed by one point, 23-22, when the end of the second quarter arrived. The Bluehawks roared out in the third quarter, sinking a flurry of three-point shots to open up a 46-28 lead. The Wildcats had no answers to the offensive onslaught and fell 64-37. Hastings St. Cecilia scored 12 three-point baskets as opposed to four for Superior.
It was the same story against Doniphan-Trumbull with Superior holding an 18-14 lead after two quarters. The Cardinals put up 22 third quarter points while Superior managed eight to seal their fate. The Wildcats failed to make up ground in the fourth quarter and fell 51-33.
Seth Schnakenberg led the Wildcats scoring with two points. Ashton Grassman and Jacob Meyer put up eight points apiece for the Wildcats. Dane Miller contributed seven points. Taygun Rothchild scored two points. Miller landed 10 rebounds. Schnakenberg nailed down six rebounds. Meyer handled four rebounds. Tanner Theis grabbed three rebounds. Grassman took care of two rebounds. Rothchild had one rebound.
Schnakenberg led the Superior scoring against Doniphan-Trumbull with nine points. Miller popped in eight points. Rothchild netted five points. Grassman and Theis accounted for four points each. Meyer scored three points. Schnakenberg jammed his way to 10 rebounds. Grassman picked off six rebounds. Meyer and Rothchild collected four rebounds apiece. Miller and Theis nabbed three rebounds each.
Superior travels to Auburn for a game Friday. The Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament gets underway Monday.
