The Superior High School girls basketball team keeps reeling off the wins. They improved their record to 12-2 with wins over Heartland, 56-17, at Henderson, last Tuesday, and Sandy Creek, 48-30, at Sandy Creek, Saturday. The Wildcats faced their toughest test of the season when they took on Class C-2 number one, and undefeated, Hastings St. Cecilia, at Hastings Tuesday. Game results were unavailable at press time.
It was no contest for Heartland after the opening tip off. Superior roared out to a 37-8 half time lead and cruised to their 56-17 final score.
The Wildcats wasted little time in opening up an insurmountable lead against Sandy Creek. Superior led 29-12 at the half and was never threatened by the Cougars as Superior won the cat fight 48-30.
Sadie Cornell led the Superior scoring charge against Heartland with 15. Halle Bargen dropped through nine points. Shayla Meyer put up eight points. Faith Butler, Emma Henderson and Ella Gardner contributed five points apiece. Neah McMeen added four points. Teegan Duncan accounted for three points. Mia Gardner scored two points. Meyer picked the boards for 12 rebounds. M. Gardner and Henderson produced five rebounds each. Duncan grabbed four rebounds. Bargen and Butler landed three rebounds apiece. Cornell, Madison Heusinkvelt and McMeen registered two rebounds each.
Meyer kicked in 23 points to lead the Superior offense against Sandy Creek. E. Gardner stepped up with 10 points. Laci Kirchhoff provided five points. Duncan and McMeen joined in with three points each. Bargen scored two points. Meyer mobbed the boards for 19 rebounds. Kirchhoff accrued five rebounds. Gardner took care of four rebounds. Butler, Cornell, Duncan and McMeen each handled two rebounds.
Superior looks to continue its winning ways when they host the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals Friday. The Deshler Dragons visit Superior Tuesday.
