Carl Richard Sykes Sr., 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Beatrice Community Hospital, Beatrice. Neb. Carl was born Feb. 26, 1942, on the family farm near Davenport.
Carl served in the United State Military, during Vietnam War in 1966 to 1969 with the 81st Combat Engineers and Persian Gulf War from 1990 to 1991. He was proud to serve his country. Outside the military, Carl worked as a mechanic. He also drove several years as an over the road trucker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alva Robert Sykes; mother, Beulah May Sykes; his brother, Con Leroy Sykes and wife, Betty Sykes, and wife, Ruth Sykes.
Carl is survived by his sisters, Merle Hoover and Cynthia Smetter; sons, Carl Sykes Jr. and Charles Sykes; step- sons, Todd Bates, Ronald Reinwalt and Jeffrey Reinwalt; and step-daughter, Elizabeth Reininger; and his grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, at Spring Creek Cemetery Ruskin. Officiant was Pastor Jeff Friesen.
