Wooden butterfly captures attention

When walking into Carolyn Jensen's Superior home, a wooden butterfy captures one's attention. It was made by Fred Kapperman, her late father.

After Fred retired in 1984, he liked tinkering in his shop in Chester with wood scraps. He made lamps, candelabras and butterflies. Carolyn's butterfly is one of four he made for the family. When he looked at the wood and saw the knot holes, they reminded him of the spots on a butterfly which inspired its creation. The other three butterflies were made for Carolyn's sister, her mother and the carpenter who built the Kappermans' home.

The butterflies are a treasured memory of Fred and his woodworking hobby.
