Wow, 2022, that’s going take a minute to get used to, I’ll be writing 2021 on everything until at least March. George installed the washer and dryer on Friday, and I’ve been doing laundry ever since. I am slowly but surely getting things unpacked and finding new homes for all our belongings, and we still can’t find anything.
At least this week, I found the charger for my laptop computer! Last week, I was on a wild goose chase for about an hour trying to find it. I had given up and was headed to Superior in hopes The Express would have a spare when I found mine tucked in my purse. I hate it when I put things away in a safe spot; I always forget where that spot is.
Friday, while George was working on the washer and dryer hook-ups, I was at the old place cleaning and packing the last of our dishes. I had hoped to have it winterized before the storm, but that didn’t work out so great. After getting the place “good enough for now,” I shut the water heater off, and yes, I shut the gas off to the unit as well. I then shut the water off to the house and opened all the faucets. I worked my way around and drained all the traps. I planned to put antifreeze in them so I could turn the heat down, but when I tried to drain the water heater, the valve refused to turn. As I locked up, I walked away with visions of the gas meter spinning faster than Clark Griswald’s electric meter in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
We didn’t have any company for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, which is a change from the last few holidays. We thought with the storm coming, that would be for the best. Robert even headed back to base a few days before planned, which surprised me. He is usually the “last-minute” and “hope for the best” kind of kid. Fingers crossed, he is gaining some maturity. There have been many “Wow, Mom, you were right” types of things coming from him the past six months or so.
That’s all for this week. Pray, I don’t get lost in a mountain of laundry! X’s & O’s.
