Marvin Bockholdt

Marvin L. "Buck" Bockholdt, the son of Louis and Clara (Becker) Bockholdt, was born on Oct. 4, 1933, at Beatrice, Neb. He died Dec. 16, at the Brod- stone Memorial Hospital at Superior, at the age of 88 years, 2 months, 12 days.

Marvin attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and Plymouth High School graduating in 1952. He was baptized on Oct. 22, 1933, by Rev Walter Baumann and confirmed on May 30, 1948, By Rev. Alvin T. Degner at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Plymouth, Neb.

Marvin was inducted into the Army Jan. 14, 1955, served 11 months in Thule, Greenland. Then serving in the Unites States Army Reserve until honorably discharged Dec. 31, 1962.

He was united in marriage to Norma Dorn on June 21, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pickrell, Neb. To this union a daughter, Janet, was born.

Marvin was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hardy for 55 years serving on the church council for many of those years. He was also a member of the Eagles and the American Legion. For many years Marvin farmed in the Hardy area, sold Purina Feed and was a Pioneer Seed representative for 29 years. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. He was a Nebraska Cornhusker and Kansas City Royals fan. His family was able to celebrate Christmas early this year, and he even enjoyed a Nerf gun fight with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma on Jan. 13, 2001; two sisters, Luella Weichel and Illa Trauernicht; son-in-law, Curtis Bargen; and a grandson, Mason Bargen.

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Janet (Ken) Petersen of Carleton, Neb .; four grandchildren: Matt (Robin) Bargen of Superior; Jason (Gabe) Bargen of Eagle, Idaho; Cassandra (Joshua) Brader of Glenvil, Neb .; and Sena Petersen of Lincoln, Neb .; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor Bargen of Fremont; Halle, Maddi, and Deacon Bargen of Superior; Peyton and Tristan Bargen of Eagle, Idaho; and Asher and Abigail Brader of Glenvil; along with a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His funeral was held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 27, from the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, with PMA Irvin Schleufer and Pastor Beth Roegner officiating.

Music was congregational hymns, "He Leadeth Me," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry" with Teresa Christensen as organist.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 26, with the family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m.

Pallbearers were Don Weichel, Dennis Weichel, Robert Trauernicht, Alan Dorn, Leslie Dorn and Michael Dorn. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin's great-grandchildren, Taylor, Halle, Asher, Maddi, Deacon, Abigail, Peyton and Tristan.

Interment with full military honors was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior.
