Henry Eugene Schriner, the son of Verdena (Hawkins) and Guy Jerome Schriner, was born May 23, 1954, at Riverton, Neb. Hank or Pappo, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, died Dec. 18, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Hank was a lifelong resident of the area. He received his formal education attending the Riverton schools. On May 21, 1976, he was united in marriage with Marcia Skiles. They were married for 32 years and raised five children. Hank was a cowboy, in the truest sense of the word, all of his life.
He ran his house with an iron fist but a tender heart.
One of his favorite past times was hunting. He had one truck with a coon
dog box or sometimes his coon hunting mule named Hoppity Hooper who
would jump in the back of the truck. The other truck had a dog box full of greyhounds for chasing coyotes.
Hank jockeyed for multiple people in multiple places - the Higley Field Track, Smith Center 1966, Northwest Kansas District Free Fair, Goodland, Kansas 1966, Beaver City Races, Nebraska State Fair Grounds in Lincoln
and many other places.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Ben, Sam and Jack Schriner.
Surviving are his children, Jeff and Hilary Schriner, Jennifer Schriner, Sally and Caleb Harris, Lacey and Jarred Hajny and Matt and Dara Schriner; 14 grandchildren; and a great- grandson.
A graveside service was at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Riverton Cemetery with Pastor Kasey Loschen officiating.
