Nuckolls County Board
County board
The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. All three commissioners were present.
After attending to routine business, the board approved the purchase of a John Deere 772G, six-wheel drive, road grader for $279,650. The grader was purchased under a state contract. The order was placed now to ensure timely delivery. A strike by John Deere workers and supply chain issues have delayed the completion of John Deere products. The grader carries a seven year comprehensive warranty. The road department will trade in a 10-year old grader.
The board received an email from NACO advising that Winstream was objecting to the proposed joint fiber optic broadband project between Glenwood Telecommunications and the South Central Public Power District. The board took no action. Windstream currently has fiber optic cable in Superior.
Scott Elting, representing the Sedan Aurora Cooperative, requested the board take action to secure infrastructure funds to pay for the concrete paving of the Sedan road to the co-op elevator. The road has been the source of complaints from some drivers. They claim it is too rough. The board advised the cost to pave the road would be prohibitive but would take the matter under consideration.
The county courthouse will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, Friday, and Dec. 31 for the holidays.
The board will hold their annual reorganizational meeting at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3.
