The joint meeting of the Nelson American Legion, Sons of American Legion and Auxiliary held on Dec. 9, was a fun-filled and tasty occasion. Following a short business meeting, the balance of the evening was used for preparing cookie plates for distribution to area veterans, both at home and in long term care facilities, and to the families of departed veterans. And of course it was necessary to perform various taste tests to make sure the baker's efforts were fit for the honored recipients!
The most important part of this activity is the delivery, giving Legion Family members the opportunity to visit with those that are unable to attend other Legion activities. Recipients are thankful for being remembered and appreciate the opportunity for even a short visit. This serves as a reminder that visits are meaningful at all times of the year and we have much to learn from veteran s and their families.
Cutline: Every year, Ameriocan Legion members create goodies trays for the members in the community who are no longer able to get out and about and enjoy the season. After the trays were all made, Teresa Walton and Kaitlyn McCutchan were caught taste testing the leftovers. Betty McCutchan, LaDene Madden, George Bruce and Bill McCutchan are in the background.
