Donuts with Grown Ups was the theme for the second quarter family engagement at Superior Elementary School. Jodi Fierstein, principal, greeted students and adults and offered them donuts as they entered the elementary commons area Thursday morning. Mrs. Fierstein had 400 donuts available for the approximately 200 students and their guests for the morning.
While waiting for the opening bell, students and adults visited and munched on their donuts. When the first bell rang, Fierstein welcomed everyone and students and adults went to the classrooms. Students happily showed the adults around their room. At their desk, students explained classwork they had finished.
When the second bell rang, Mrs. Fierstein, from the intercom, welcomed everyone and then lead the Flag Salute. She read the lunch menu and announcements.
Afterwards, each classroom went through their morning circle activities. Mrs. Ohmstede's second graders recalled their favorite Christmas memory in their circle talk. Several recalled decorating their Christmas trees, receiving gifts, placing the top decoration on the tree and their elf on a shelf.
Next they turned their attention to the calendar noting what day it was and participating in the Christmas countdown.
As students returned to their desks, adults said good-bye to their young ones. It was a great way to start a busy day at Superior Elementary School.
