A common reply to a number of emergencies is: “I don’t care what they do . . . just do something!”

I think I may have said something like that at times, but I hope not as each situation is different to some extent and needs to be handled accordingly.

COVID-19 (and all its variants) is different, but it seems that a lot of people in charge are “just doing something.”

In the past few weeks, the new variant (Omicron) has received the bulk of the daily news from the national media and to be frank . . . I am confused by the news.

The first news noted it came out of South Africa, was very infectious and the end of the world was just days away. (I never heard that last part, but that was how I felt after listening to the news.)

Not too long after the emergence of the Omicron covid strain, there were news reports that, yes, this was a new variant, and people could catch this variant much easier that the regular COVID-19, or the COVID-D variant, but . . .

Later news reports noted there has been few hospitalizations because of the Omicron variant and I think I heard there were no (or very few) deaths because of the Omicron.

So, on one hand we have the national media yelling at us to “Do Something” . . . the Omicron is coming. On the other hand, we have the scientist and some of the national media telling us: “yes, this is new, and you may get sick, but it is not likely to put you in the hospital, or to kill you.”

The national media (including most of Liberals) like the attention, the noise and confusion, this Omicron is causing because that is how the Liberals achieve their goals. (Noise, lights, confusion, and the Liberals have an answer for whatever they want to accomplish.)

I do not envy those people who have placed themselves in positions to deal with national emergencies (like this covid sickness), they have a tough job.

However, “just do something” is not the correct response.

There are so many parts to this puzzle and, like most puzzles, any answer is tough to come up with.

Please pray for those in powerful positions. They all need the help of the Almighty God to get their job done.

We recently had to clean out the basement to fix water damage and just last week, I was trying to put things back in place. That is when I came across a book called “Spice For Life.” I remember the book from years ago, but forgot all about it. It contained a lot of humorous little comments on life that were enjoyable.

I’m going to pass a few of them on to you this week as I didn’t want to write about our everyday life we need to do today. However, all the noise over the Omicron COVID virus changed my mind. But I can still devote part of this week to my original intention.

With the Christmas holy day, and holidays coming I just wanted to pass along a little humor for you to enjoy.

Honest, this first one was written more than 50 years ago and had nothing to do with what I have written above:

To wit:

“Doing something just to be doing something . . . is what America does best.”

“He who has not made a single mistake in his entire lifetime has not been very busy.”

“The New Year does not come knocking meekly at the door. Cowbells ring out, horns blast, people shout, auto tires screech . . . reminding us that this is the year we promised to do something different. If only we could remember what it was.”

(Honest, this was written years ago, but could have been written any time in the last 11 months.) “Our new vice-president wasn’t so much interested in his hike in salary as he was in the privilege of taking an executive meditative nap after lunch each day.”

“No one knows for sure what the coming year will bring. Nevertheless you’ll notice no one is throwing away their unused cans of fly spray.”

(Remember, this one was also written years ago. Maybe somethings never change.) “The only ‘News Break’ we look forward to on television is a break from the news.”

“The tongue is a small movable structure attached to the floor of the mouth. In some cases, keeping it there for a few seconds can save the day.”

“Don’t dwell in the past; it’s been properly buried. Don’t worry about the future; it can’t be bought.”

“After reading the family doctor book, Uncle George suffered from four ailments he never knew existed.” (That one reminds me of a brother who noted, he never should have retired. Seems his medical insurance company wanted him to take a physical exam. He didn’t know he had so much wrong with him at the time.)

“Sign on a ‘Used Car’ auto lot: Please don’t kick our tires . . . what did they ever do to you?”

“Your confirmed membership in the ‘Over The Hill’ club starts when you keep asking, “Who’s that?” during the Oscar Awards (or any of the other ‘Award’ shows)”

The one thought that will get me through this winter: “Gardening is the only occupation where a man can stand motionless for a long stretch of time studying his flowers without being accused of being a loafer.”

I hope you all remember to enjoy these “Holy Days” and the resulting “Holidays” in the coming weeks. Remember to enjoy the journey as well as the destination.
