Presenting Biblical answers to tough questions
Q: What are some ways I can be living out God’s will for my life right now?
A: I am excited by this question! The decision to begin living out God’s will for us is second only to the decision to trust Christ as Savior and Lord! God’s will for us is known through His Word; the Bible and there are several passages that can help a person begin living out His will today!
The first helpful verse is II Peter 2:2. This verse tells us to desire the Word of God like a newborn desires milk. Since I have a baby in the house right now this illustration hits home! Like milk to a newborn baby, the Bible is a necessity for believers, but it’s an acquired taste. It takes discipline to develop the habit, but that habit is one of the most important things for believers to have! Get into the Word! Joining a Bible Study or Sunday School can help us with this.
The next step is to let God’s word begin shaping our character by living out what it teaches (I Thessalonians 4:3; James 1:21-25). Christians are called to grow in righteous character so that others can see the transforming power of the gospel. Within a few years of becoming a Christian, we ought to have grown up enough to understand God’s word for ourselves, know the process for overcoming sin, and begin taking on responsibilities within the family of God.
Stepping into a role of service in a local church is a final big step for a believer seeking God’s will. God wants all believers to be a part of a local family or body of believers (I Corinthians 12:12-13). Each Christian is given unique gifts by God partly so that they may exercise those gifts to benefit other believers (I Peter 4:10-11). You don’t have to have an official title or anything, just think about the things you’re good at (fixing things, teaching kids, etc.) and think of creative ways to use those gifts to bless the church.
