SHS wrestling kicks off season

The Superior High School wrestling team opened the season with a quadrangular meet at Daykin, hosted by Meridian, Friday. Match results were unavailable at press time.

The Wildcats took third place, with 101 points. Other teams competing at the match were Alma, Axtell, Nebraska Christian, Republic County, Doniphan Trumbull, Kenesaw, Meridian, Johnson County Central, Wilcox-Hildreth, Shelton, South Central USD 5 Red Raiders, Sutton, Hastings St. Cecilia, Riverside and Harvard at the Harvard Invitational Saturday.

Holden MacDonald had a third place finish and seven team points in the 106 pound weight bracket.

Brett Miller picked up 12 team points with his second place finish in the 113 pound weight bracket. Cole Rughe took seventh place.

Dominique Baumbach finished in 10th place in the 120 pound weight bracket.

Hayden Neeman grabbed a second place final in the 126 pound weight bracket. He was awarded 18 team points.

Gavin Ekstein earned two team points with his eighth place finish in the 138 pound weight class.

Aaron Allgood took top honors in the 145 pound weight class. He earned 21 points with his first place finish.

Tyler Everhart was in 10th place in the 152 pound weight bracket. He earned two team points. Isaac Hathaway picked up four team points with his seventh place finish in the 160 pound weight bracket.

Jordan Brown took fourth place and eight team points in the 182 pound weight bracket. He left the event before completing his final matches to attend the wedding of his sister.

Ty Woerner added 14 team points and a third place finish at 220 pounds. Henry Griljava took seventh place in the 220 pound division.

Payton Christiancy landed a third place finish and 13 team points in the 285 pound weight bracket. Anders Webber finished in eighth place. Christian Osweiler took 15th place.

Superior travels to Wood River for a match Friday. The Wildcats are back in Daykin, Saturday, for the Meridian Invitational.
